About me

Dr. Ioannis N. Athanasiadis is a researcher with the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence IDSIA), in Lugano, Switzerland. His areas of expertise include intelligent information systems, environmental informatics, software agents, decision support systems and machine learning. He is also a Fellow of the Ecoinformatics Collaboratory at the University of Vermont, USA. During the period 2000-2005, he was an associate researcher with the Informatics and Telematics Institute, CERTH, in Thessaloniki, Greece and a founding member of the Intelligent Systems and Software Engineering Lab.

Ioannis holds a Dipl.Eng (MSc) and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is a member of ACM, Computer Society, iEMSs, and a licensed professional engineer with the Technical Chamber of Greece.

He received the iEMSs Best Student Paper Prize (June 2004), and the 2007 EURO SIWzie Award by the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (Sept. 2007). In 2008 he was granted a research scientist excellence deferral by the Greek Ministry of Defense. Also, he has been selected as an Outstanding Reviewer for 2007 and Reviewer of the Year 2008 of the scientific journal Environmental Modelling and Software. Since 2010 serves as Editor for Software and Data News of Environmental Modelling and Software.
