About me
Dr. Ioannis N. Athanasiadis is a Lecturer with the Electrical and Computer Engineering Dept. of Democritus University of Thrace, in Xanthi, Greece. His areas of expertise include software engineering, intelligent information systems, environmental informatics, software agents, decision support systems, knowledge engineering, metadata and ontologies and machine learning.
During the period 2005-2010, he was a researcher with the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA), in Lugano, Switzerland, and taught in the MSc program of the Faculty of Informatics, University of Lugano. He was also affiliated with the Ecoinformatics Collaboratory at the University of Vermont, USA, and a founding member of the Intelligent Systems and Software Engineering Lab at the Informatics and Telematics Institute, CERTH, in Thessaloniki, Greece.
Ioannis holds a Dipl.Eng (MSc) and a Ph.D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He is a member of ACM, IEEE Computer Society, iEMSs, and a licensed professional engineer with the Technical Chamber of Greece.
He received the iEMSs Best Student Paper Prize (June 2004), and the 2007 EURO SIWzie Award by the Simulation Interoperability Standards Organization (Sept. 2007). In 2008, he was granted a research scientist excellence deferral by the Greek Ministry of Defense. Also, he has been selected as an Outstanding Reviewer for 2007 and Reviewer of the Year 2008 of the scientific journal Environmental Modelling & Software.
He is the Treasurer of the International Environmental Modelling and Software Society, and also serves as an Editor for Software and Data News of Environmental Modelling & Software.
